Outstanding opportunity for an Injury Free Coalition Program Coordinator.  This individual will facilitate the three-fold partnership between Harborview, Children’s Hospital and Public Health, to bring local resources to bear on local child injury problems.  Lead the creation of an infrastructure for sustained community-based injury prevention activities.  A successful coalition will provide opportunities for public health research and measurable community service in the form of reduced injury risk.  In addition, the Injury Free Coalition Program Coordinator will play a lead role in aligning Harborview's community outreach efforts with the overall mission and strategic direction of the hospital, in particular Harborview's position as the Level I Pediatric Trauma Center for the WWAMI region.

MEDIA/COMMUNITY OUTREACH

  • Represent the Injury Free – Seattle coalition within the University, at community forums, with public officials, with the media and at national meetings.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community based youth service providers, public health programs, law enforcement, media, schools and other agencies serving children.
  • Develop publications, resources, website content and email communications regarding coalition activities, incorporating strategic planning goals and community input.
  • Proactively develop and pitch focused injury prevention stories to local TV stations, radio stations, newspapers and community publications for dissemination to the general public.
ADVOCACY/POLICY
  • Serve as an injury prevention expert on regional advisory boards and committees.
  • Provide technical assistance to local organizations that are drafting and/or implementing policies related to child injury prevention.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
  • Manage coalition activities among core campaign partners, including setting up and running periodic meetings. 
  • Align existing community-focused injury prevention efforts with hospital-based efforts, building strong linkages between Harborview Medical Center and the community.
  • Assess community needs through a variety of methods including focus groups, observational studies and surveys.
  • Oversee specific community projects, including playground builds and outreach events.
  • Work with injury prevention researchers to design, conduct and interpret research-quality evaluations of Injury Free activities and programs.
  • Supervise and synchronize activities of program coordinators hired to oversee specific program components (e.g., child passenger safety). 
  • Prepare required progress reports for funding agencies.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in health education, health-related or education-related field, or a liberal arts field AND at least two years of experience coordinating and developing programs in the community, preferably with community coalitions.  Knowledge of or experience with injury prevention practice and principles. Experience with program evaluation and dissemination of results. Basic PC computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.  Experience with Powerpoint, Frontpage, Dreamweaver, or HTML. Experience in grant writing and fundraising.  Experience with public speaking.  Exceptional communication skills, both spoken and written.

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired:

Master's degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Education or Program Administration.  Prefer experience working in central or southeast Seattle or knowledge of those communities.  At least two years experience working in or directly with local public health agencies and programs.

Condition of Employment:

A combination of an office based, information intensive, and computer based working environment and field work in local community agencies, media outlets, at health fairs and at the offices of health care and public health institutions participating in these projects.
