Cancer Partnership Program Coordinator - Community Health Service

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, provides leadership in Alaska for cancer education,
outreach and partnership for the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information
Service-Northwest region and other statewide cancer initiatives.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Conducts an annual comprehensive statewide analysis to identify trends in health
status, cancer incidence and mortality, as well as gaps in cancer information
and education. Develops target interventions to reach underserved communities
with cancer information, training and services. Collects and analyzes data for
program evaluation. Identifies and develops new and existing resources to
enhance successful ANTHC cancer programs.
Writes and implements new grants and programs. Develops
partnerships within the Alaska Tribal Health System and between federal, state,
municipal and community health organizations, to build capacity in cancer
programs. Represents ANTHC Cancer Program at cancer-related tribal, regional,
state and national meetings and conferences.
Assures dissemination of the latest, most accurate cancer
information. Develops new cancer education resources and reviews existing cancer
education materials for accuracy, cultural relevance and audience
appropriateness for Alaska.
Represents CIS at state, regional and national meetings and
conferences on cancer issues. Makes presentations about the CIS program and CIS
projects as needed. Participates in working groups within the CIS national and
Partnership Program staff to share ideas, experiences and strategies.
Collaborates with federal, state, municipal, community health organizations to
achieve priority cancer goals and objectives.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Skills
Knowledge of privacy laws and regulations.
Knowledge of data reporting techniques.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease.
Knowledge of principles and methods of health education/promotion, program
planning and evaluation.
Knowledge of budget processes and funding programs.
Skill in organizing, scheduling and conducting technical training classes.
Skill in compiling and analyzing raw data, identifying trends and presenting
results.
Skill in developing and implementing strategic plans, goals, and procedures.
Skill in analyzing issues, evaluating alternatives, and making logical
recommendations based on findings.
Skill in presenting information to CEO, boards of directors, and public groups.
Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with
representatives from local, state and Federal agencies and co-workers in a team
environment.
Skill in writing health communications/media materials.
Skill in planning, developing, and implementing public health interventions,
public awareness/social marketing campaigns.
Skill in coordinating public health initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software
applications.
Required Experience
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Administration or similar
discipline related to this field. Progressively responsible professional/exempt
work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college
education.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Four (4) years of professional experience in a public health program in chronic
disease prevention/health promotion. An equivalent combination of relevant
education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
May occasionally be exposed to infectious diseases. May be required to work
outside the traditional work schedule. May be called out to work off-shift in
emergency situations. A State of Alaska driver's license is required.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This
position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. May be required
to lift approximately 40 pounds.
