Youth Suicide Prevention Field Coordinator for South King county

Youth Suicide Prevention Program (YSPP) is seeking an independent contractor with experience as an educator/community organizer or a public health/social work professional to coordinate YSPP community-based suicide prevention activities with participating south King County communities; including Renton, Tukwila, Kent, Auburn, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Des Moines, SeaTac, and Burien.

About YSPP:

The mission of YSPP is to reduce suicide attempts and deaths by the youth of Washington State. This will be achieved through public education, training, evaluation, and the enhancement of community responses.

Independent Contractor Description:

This is an independent contract job for the period from October 20, 2008 to June 15, 2009. Interested contractors must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the social services or health field and experience working in a school and/or community social service agency. Requires knowledge of issues related to at-risk children & youth, suicide prevention, and community crisis resources. The successful candidate must be able to speak comfortably in public, enjoy working independently, be a self-starter and problem solver.

Must reside in King County—preference will be given to south King County residents. Must have business license or be willing to obtain one, access to reliable personal transportation, a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a computer with Internet access. Good written and oral skills are essential along with a passion for suicide prevention.

Contractor’s Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Crisis Clinic to offer suicide prevention services to area schools.
  • Provide in-person training and technical assistance (to include consultation regarding crisis response planning) to schools in the implementation of their suicide prevention efforts.
  • Facilitate awareness education presentations for teachers, parents and/or community members.
  • Communicate activities and progress to YSPP Deputy Director through telephone and in person meetings.
  • Provide Monthly Updates on progress.
